Shawnie Grant is a fashion instructor, fashion designer, and international distributor for her clothing brand Tailored. While studying in college, Shawnie worked as a tutor mentor for high school students at Texas Southern University Upward Bound Program. During this time, she started donating clothes from her personal wardrobe to teenage girls in need that she tutored. Once these girls which were once classified as "outcast" of the student body felt accepted by their peers, they were no longer timid, started applying themselves more in class, and became involved in student body government along with activities at their school. With guidance for career development from a tutor mentor, these girls built confidence and excelled beyond the average student. "They blossomed like flowers," Shawnie said. It all started with a make-over of clothes which led Shawnie to create the charity organization, Tailored Hearts, in 2009. Shawnie also creates and sell fashion curriculums to learning centers, schools, and universities worldwide. She taught her 1st curriculum, Dress for Success, in Shenzhen, China to adults at English First learning center. She is also the founder of Tailored Fashion House, an extra curricular fashion design course at World Foreign Language Middle School in Shanghai, China. Shawnie was the first fashion instructor at New York University Shanghai for the Fashion Beyond Borders; Exploring the Global Fashion Industry course, teaching her 3rd fashion curriculum to high school students to help prepare them for professional careers within the fashion industry. In 2017, Shawnie started of a fashion club at a nonprofit organization, American Language Center, in Oujda, Morocco where she taught the 2nd edition of Fashion Beyond Borders; Exploring the Global Fashion Industry curriculum. Staying true to her heart, Shawnie was also an active volunteer at the Shanghai Healing Home in China where she taught English to orphans ages 3-6 as well as teenage orphan students at American language Center in Morocco. Outside of the classroom, Shawnie works side by side with clothing manufacturers to project manage the production of her brand of school uniforms and safety work wear, which are sold at a wholesale price to buyers in America and Africa. She is currently an active volunteer at Chung Tai Zen Center Houston in her hometown Houston, Texas. Shawnie holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from Texas Southern University and is a current M.B.A student at University of Houston with a concentration in international business.
